the Journey

    Distance

Ben and Tarka will cover 1800 miles starting from Scott's Terra Nova Hut at the edge of Antarctica to the South Pole and back to the coast again. That's equivalent to 69 back-to-back marathons hauling up to 200kg each (the weight of roughly two adult men) of kit and supplies necessary to survive.

Distances here are shown in statute miles.

Farewell London

The day is finally here. Ben and Tarka are bidding farwell to London as they set off for Antarctica to take on the Scott Expedition.

It's a long journey South that will take several weeks to get to the starting point  but we'll be in touch on route with a full update on leaving London and a bit about the final preparations.

In the meantime here's a picture from The View from The Shard earlier this week - Ben and Tarka in their expedition kit - and the final part of Henry Worsley's five-part series giving an insight into the route will follow tomorrow.

Good luck fellas,
I Hope the weather is kind to you and you don’t have too many days in your tent. Give White Island a wide berth and be careful around the bottom end of the Gateway - lots of disturbance and crevasses .
Hope all goes well ,
Kev,

Well then, do look at the About page on this site.  Please note that the miles are statute miles, not geographic.  Ah yes, good luck to Ben and Tarka!
