    Distance

Ben and Tarka will cover 1800 miles starting from Scott's Terra Nova Hut at the edge of Antarctica to the South Pole and back to the coast again. That's equivalent to 69 back-to-back marathons hauling up to 200kg each (the weight of roughly two adult men) of kit and supplies necessary to survive.

Distances here are shown in statute miles.

Team Skye

A short film about a week spent training on the Isle of Skye last November with Al and Martin (my teammates in Antarctica later this year), Andy (expedition manager) and Tem (the wonderfully talented filmmaker who’s helping us document everything that’s going into this expedition).

I’ll post a fuller update -and indeed a proper introduction to what we’re up to- in the next few days…

[...] quite right. The internet has killed the spirit that led to explorers wanting to push the limits. These guys are quite clearly  just sat in front of their computers experiencing the small world via the net [...]

You are inspirational humans. I have been a huge fan of Al’s for about five years, and my very own copy of “There are other Rivers.”  is in the post as I write.
So far he has inspired me to cycle the length of Ireland, then a tour of Scandanavia unsupported, and I’ve just come back from a training session for my first marathon.
After watching your Skye training video I feel I have at least two more people to look up to.  You deserve all the success in the world. Keep going.
Sir Edmund Hilary said “You don’t have to be a fantastic hero to do certain things- to compete. You can just be an ordinary chap, sufficiently motivated to reach challenging goals.”
You lot are my motivation. I hope you don’t mind. Thank you.

That video is so awesome, I finish my schooling in the fall so save some stuff for me to explore! I’m just starting my adventuring/exploring life but if you guys are ever in the states or if you ever need someone to tag along to teach I’m ready!
